#Unreadshelf March Recap

It's been hard to read the past 18 days. There is something about the stillness that caused a new feeling deep in my guts...a instinctive feeling that reminded me we are not at peace.

So, I was cleaning my basement.
And I found another box of books.

Some are from my early 20's like Real Boys by Pollack and 100 Most Influential Women of All Time by Felder. A copy of The Tempest by Shakespeare which was given to me by my high school Humanities teacher and a copy of Stories and Stones by Ellis in which I am mentioned as part of the dedication. There was a set of Funk and Wagnalls New International Dictionary of the English Language. Signed copies of My Sister's Keeper by Picoult, Cage of Stars by Michard and Ellen Foster by Gibbons. My grandfather's Smoke from This Altar by Lamour was in there and 5 Love Languages from Chapman too. There was a first edition (1970) of Our Bodies, Ourselves by Norsigian. There was a copy of Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez which felt the most serendipitous.

A walk into my past, this box has not been opened in 10 plus years. And yet each one is an important part of my collection. All were previously read and added to my reference shelf except for Love in the Time of Cholera; That went to the unread book shelf.

Monthly Read Goal: Book that has been on our self the longest. Eggs by Spinelli which has been on my shelf since 2006. It was given to me by a former student. Two unlikely friends find each other and learn about themselves and loss. Solid middle grade read. In fact anything by Spinelli is a good read.

Monthly Strategy: Book Buying/Library Ban & 7 days of Unread Books: This month, I joined the "gram" and have been posting unread books. I also have bought zero books per the The Unreadself Project 2020 I do confess that on February 29, a few library loans came in so I picked them up even thought there was a library ban for the month of March. I have resisted the urge to buy on Amazon even with the Shelter in Place order so I just logged those ideas into Good Reads for another time. Titles include: Stamped: Racism, Antiracism and You by Reynolds; Fallout by Strasser; A Time to Dance by Venkatraman; Deathless Divide by Ireland, and The Parker Inheritance by Johnson. I really wanna get a personal copy of Sink Reflections by Cilley the The FlyLady, but for now I have been googling her blog posts and tuning into her podcasts.

What did I learn?
That I have a lovely library in my house and I can read what I own with great satisfaction.
That "the someday I will read" is about reading today.
That I have the ability to read a good book in my house.
That getting a book is not the same as reading a book.

Here's what I read this month:
The Selection #1 by Cass
When We Left Cuba by Cleeton
Eggs by Spinelli
Herding Cats by Anderson
The CHAOS Cure: Clean your House and Calm Your Soul by Cilley
The Blue Umbrella by Bond
Black Beauty by Sewell
